WHAT THE NEEDHAM COMMUNITY COUNCIL DID FOR NEEDHAM RESIDENTS IN 2009

1,590 Rides were provided on our Courtesy Van, providing free door-to-door transportation within the town of Needham
59 People are now receiving instructions in tutoring through our English as a Second Language Program; 10 tutors are on the waiting list for tutoring training
693 People were provided medical equipment from our Medical Loan Closet
555 People were visited at the 4 local nursing homes, with a monthly "store," where residents may purchase various articles for a nominal fee
1130 People enjoyed Thanksgiving Day dinners, either in their homes or at a community table, co-sponsored by the Needham Rotary Club
139 Needham residents received Christmas dinner in their homes, in conjunction with Project Ezra at Temple Beth Shalom
392 Individuals were given holiday support of food, toys, clothing and personal items at Thanksgiving and Christmas
285 Elderly residents, living alone or residing in a nursing home in Needham, received gift bags at Hanukkah and Christmas
3,261 Individuals were provided with food from our our Food Pantry
300 Needham residents requested and received information and referrals
145 Rides were given to medical appointments, including rides to area hospitals and local appointments
1,165 Needham elementary students participated in the CAP [Child Assault Prevention] Program during the past school year
166 Individuals, from ages 13-95, volunteered in all of the above programs; enjoying the satisfaction of helping their community while socializing with each other, and/or earning high school community service credits

...and, we partner with a wide variety of community organizations and clubs to help support Needham residents.

 

We saw an average 5% increase in each of the above programs during 2009 and expect this trend to continue in 2010.
